How to fix accidental swiping between pages on OS X Mavericks

I just got myself a new Macbook Pro and with it I finally went on using the also new OS X Mavericks. In case you are asking why I hadn't upgraded the old Macbook to Mavericks, the answer is simple: The old one is so old and slow and it was the only computer I had, so I didn't want to accidentally mess it up.

Nevertheless things are looking mostly good with Mavericks. Mostly. One new thing is swiping between pages, with which you can go back and forth on websites just by swiping to left or right on the trackpad. That is pretty cool, right?

Cool, but I was constantly accidentally swiping between pages while I was trying to go up and down with in a page. That was really bad when I was working with some site and I would swipe little bit to left and lose the unsaved changes. Like working with a view on a Drupal site and pufff I'd be back on the previous page before saving the view. Gggah!

In order to save Toni from hearing my constant swearing and yelling at my computer (well, at least to remove one reason to swear and yell) I googled how to fix it. I noticed I wasn't only one with sticky fingers going sideways when they are supposed to go up and down.

As many were asking this, many were giving them kind of useless answers. The only true way is to disable the whole setting. And that can be done!

Go to the System Preferences. In case you don't know which one it is, it's grey/metallic coloured and has gears on it.

So go on and click that one. It'll open the System Preferences (surprise), from which you need to find Trackpad. Click it.

The tab you need on Trackpad settings is the one that says More Gestures. Click it and you'll see something like this, with the first setting to be Swipe between pages:

You can also change the setting to some other gesture, but if you don't need it at all, the safest way is to disable it. To disable it, just click the little square with the tag and there you go. No more accidental swipes between pages.

By the way these gesture settings are pretty cool. There are things you may or may not need or find useful. In case you aren't afraid of messing around, check them. But hey, if things go wrong, don't blame me!
